Beyond the editor

Press Control

Work with a shared remote template library and jobs.

Press Control is the Desktop mode for connecting to an InkSmith Press instance. It is intended for organisations that maintain a shared template library and production render jobs. Access requires a separate Press Control entitlement and a reachable, compatible Press server.

Connect to an instance

Open Press Control, create a profile for the server address, and run the connection check. The status view reports health, readiness, API and renderer compatibility, and TLS or certificate diagnostics. Sign in with credentials granted by your Press administrator.

Desktop keeps credentials and Press HTTP requests on the Go side of the app. The editor receives bounded template content only when you explicitly open a remote draft.

Work on a remote template

Browse collections and templates, then open a draft in the regular Desktop editor. A remote tab displays its instance, collection, template, draft, and revision context. Saving updates that draft through the Press API; it does not overwrite a published version.

Publishing creates an immutable version after server validation. Authorised users can unpublish or activate an earlier version with revision checks. If another editor changed a draft first, Desktop reports a conflict and offers to reload the current server revision or preserve the local work as another draft.

Review jobs

With the right permissions, Press Control shows queue counts, jobs, and audit history. Users with render permissions can submit a job for an active published template, inspect its status, and save a completed PDF.

For integrations with other applications, see the Press API.

Current scope: User and role administration, certificate trust enrollment, and some operational controls are still being developed. Use the server's deployment and security instructions before operating Press beyond a trusted environment.
